Climbing

Looking toward Johannesburg near Cascade Pass.

People climb for different and often very personal reasons. I climb primarily for sport, fitness, and life balance. It provides an outlet completely separate and in some contrast with my sedentary and analytical professional life. I began climbing with the Everett Branch of the Mountaineers in 2013 when I enrolled in the Basic Alpine Climbing Course. Initially, I was simply seeking the skills to reach higher points on volcanoes such as Mt. Rainier. Over time, rock climbing overtook my focus especially gym and sport climbing. I find the emphasis on gymnastic ability appealing and enjoy training for ever more complex moves. Ice climbing is a more recent fascination with an emphasis on physical endurance.
